Abstract
This capstone analyzes how the gender roles society has set for women affect the way in which they perceive and participate in the athletic community. It is also studies how gender roles within the home often have a lasting impact on women which further leads to the lack of presence in professional athletics as well. Along with understanding the lack of women representation in the media, research has taught us that there is a lack of female representation across all sports media outlets which leads to young girls turning away from the athletic community as a whole.
