This capstone project will address the overarching question: What tools will effectively create and maintain positive connections between school and home for ELL families? Creating ways to link home and schools is important because general education teachers who teach ELLs have reported that they do not know how to connect with ELLs’ families to support their academic progress (Mapp & Kuttner, 2013). Through my chapter 2 literature research there were three main challenges facing ELL families to have a connection with the school. The three barriers that were found were language barriers, sociocultural barriers, and assessment barriers. Chapter 3 presents the PD toolkit that provides the tools that educators need to effectively plan and implement a positive home-school partnership program. These tools will enable the teachers to engage with ELL families to help ELL students to succeed academically.en_US
