The following is an Honors Thesis project completed in my final year at SUNY Brockport. I used the knowledge and understandings gained through my coursework completed for the Arts for Children major, Literary Arts focus; and Childhood Inclusive Education Certification Program to create a fourth grade English Language Arts unit plan with a focus on social emotional learning utilizing J. K. Rowling’s young adult novel, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone (Rowling, 1997). The project includes a review of current literature related to Rowling’s text, elementary education and social emotional education; a Backward Design (Bowen, 2017) unit planning document; three lesson plans written in the EdTPA format; and a Unit Planning Commentary.Collections
