The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the governmental nutrition assistance programs, which are known federally as SNAP and WIC. There will be a focus on the effectiveness of these programs in the state of New York, and ideas will be offered on what should be done to make improvements. It is apparent that the Food Stamp Program is linked to a large amount of fraudulent activities, as well as weight gain. The WIC Program has problems with negative external stigmas, but it strives to provide users with better health and nutrition. Each food assistance program is examined in detail and it is determined that changes are necessary. Improvements can be made by each program adopting the strengths of the other.Collections
