dc.description.abstract | “Listen to them.”, represents a group of twenty-one rape survivors. I know them personally and they have confided in me the details of their attacks. These are all people that I have relationships with: friendships, family, ex-coworkers, colleagues, etc. The fabrics, colors, and other adornments chosen for each cone reflect the personality and some physical qualities of the individuals portrayed. The experiences of their assaults are also present on these standing quilts. Small, almost hidden books containing the survivors’ words are sewn to the bodies, revealing a literal remnant of the trauma. Stitching these forms by hand takes time and patience. For me, this process, is an analog to healing. | en_US |
