An essential development in children’s language development is an understanding of consonant sounds. Phonemic awareness activities include rhyming, alliteration, phoneme blending, phoneme isolation, phoneme substitution, phoneme segmentation, and phoneme deletion. This paper provides an overview of each of these activities and argues for its use as a supplementary teaching tool.
