This study was conducted in order to investigate and compare first grade students/perceptions of and attitudes toward reading. The subjects consisted of 110 first grade students. These participants were asked to complete a ten-question attitude survey and also answer ten interview questions concerning reading. These oral responses were tape recorded and transcribed. The surveys and interviews were then examined and condensed. Responses to questions were descriptively analyzed and divided into categories. Percentages of similar responses were reported. These percentages varied among the questions.
