The purpose of the current study is to conduct such comparative investigations and to assess water quality conditions and trends within the Finger Lakes. The study is composed of two distinct components, Synoptic Water Quality Investigation and Sediment Core Investigation. The Synoptic Water Quality Investigation is designed to assess current limnological conditions, and to evaluate water quality trends within this important set of lakes. This portion of the Study was initiated in 1996 and is continuing at present. The Sediment Core Investigation is designed to assess chemical trends within the Finger Lakes over time. This portion of the Study is designed as a one-time effort, and sample collection occurred between 1997 and 1998.Collections
