This research examines how women successfully maintain a life away from crime. Much is known about men within our criminal justice system because they make up most of the criminal population, yet little is known about female desistance or abstinence of crime. Understanding the barriers and supportive factors women face during their reentry process is key to facilitating their success. My project involves participant observation at a halfway house in Rochester, NY to gain a better insight into the struggles that women face in their reentry process. The house takes a client-centered, trauma-informed approach to supporting women as they reenter society.Collections
