Black women have been associated with many different stereotypes such as the “Aunt Jemimah,” “Jezebel,” “Sapphire,” and “tragic mulatta.” This essay examines how stereotypes persist and how their oppressive power continues to harm Black people over time. Black women should fight back against the stereotypes that are holding us back, and we can do this by starting with the "Mammy" stereotype.Collections
