There were two alternative subheadings to this, being "why make a film," and "why make this film?" Surely you can see the difference - whether the medium should be brought to question, or the narrative. I believe the chosen medium of animated film is what benefited this thesis the most. It inspired a great deal of personal growth within me, as creating a cinematic narrative allowed me to explore storytelling in my artwork. Additionally, because of how much control one must take on in the medium of animation. This was both creatively freeing, and also a challenge in being responsible for every bit of life and movement in this world. It was essential to challenge myself with being the "everyman" of a production typically undergone by studios because it would allow me to more easily continue to challenge myself in future works. If I've done all this, some more big projects might even pale in comparison. Not only on the level of creating artwork, I also am going to be challenged emotionally. Outside of my control, I will need to look inwards at myself for the sake of my relationships with other people. This film, entitled "Claustrum," seeks to explore the choices we make in perpetuating self-isolation. On a deeper level, the initial desire to make a film didn't solely come from this challenge. It was due to a deep sense of dissatisfaction within myself. Reframing it into a challenge was how I hoped to come to terms with taking on a big project, for I was confronted both emotionally and physically with the intense labor. If I had to summarize a greater motiv, it would be; Every day, my mind and body betray me. Those moments don't stop coming, and I think artists love exploring this betrayal, and they want to understand why they have conflicting thoughts and ideas, up until it really starts to hurt.Accessibility Statement
