• A Curriculum unit ensuring social justice oriented classes for high school students grade 9-12

      The purpose of this curriculum project was to create an instructional unit emphasizing awareness, consciousness, and intentional social justice teaching; for teachers, administrators and educators to implement in their educational setting. The goal of this project was to present a a high school curriculum unit full of social justice language, literature, and suggested activities that motivate leadership development, which in turn may create welcoming educational environments for the liberation of the oppressed ones. The project encourages users to implement educational advocacy practices, diversity/pluralism, needs and educational assessments, and create space for teacher, students, and parents' relationship.     • Grit relationship to student grade point average

      The importance of choosing students for a specific program has been something many specialized schools struggle with. There is little research completed on the relationship between Grit and GPA on middle school aged students. The author collected data on student grade point averages GPA and Grit score from 10th grade students who were enrolled in a dual college high school program. The top 5 performing students and bottom 5 performing students according to GPA were selected for the study. The researcher was investigating if there was a relationship between student GPA and Grit score. The findings showed there was a relationship between Grit and GPA. [from abstract]
    • U.S.history curriculum adapted for English language learner through flipped learning

      The purpose of this project was to provide educators an alternative method to the traditional method of teaching content courses. Many areas of content are taught through the instructional method of lecture style where students are passive learner instead of active learners. This curriculum project was to address the change to active learning and the need to improve content course learning for English Language Learners (ELLs). As technology becomes a vital part of the classroom, teachers are in need to find effective ways to implement it. One effective way that would improve content learning education for ELLs is through the flipped learning or flipped classroom. Research has shown that flipped classrooms can impact student achievement, student learning outcome, student motivation, and teacher preparation. Flipping the classroom allows for educators to change the environment of the classroom to become more interactive and also suit each individual needs more. This curriculum project created videos and material for flipped classroom on the American Colonies unit, is to provide an active learning environment for teachers to use towards developing their flipped classroom.
