dc.description.abstractThis article discusses reasons for learning alternative algorithms and the benefits of exposing preservice teachers to alternative algorithms. It presents two alternative multi-digit subtraction algorithm examples, includes perspectives from preservice teachers, and provides strategies for teachers and teacher educators to integrate alternative algorithms in classrooms.
