Social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum is used as a model organism to understand the role of adhesion in directed molility guided by shear flow. This study will address whether inhibition of the cell’s sugar coating (glycocalyx) by competition with mannose affects its ability to adhere and sense mechanical cues.
