The Church of Scientology is one of the most controversial and least understood new religious movements of our time. This Capstone is aimed at discovering the origins of Scientology. From L. Ron Hubbard's background to his development of Dianetics and Scientology, no stone is left unturned. Uncovering the clandestine practices of Scientology was a difficult task. Upon observing the Church of Scientology certain aspects of the Church fall under the religious clause while others support the cult claim. Although Hubbard initially created this technology as an applied science, we can clearly see Scientology is not a science. L. Ron Hubbard created Scientology for numerous different reasons. Questions continue to arise about the Church, its origin, framework, beliefs, and practices. Keywords: Church of Scientology, Religion, Cult, L.
