dc.description.abstract | Abstract Background: Hip hop has become synonymous wit American culture but its achievements and pioneers have not. It is imperative that Hip Hop does not become a monolith of itself and by that, I mean it can not become this singular object everyone just takes from without recognizing the people whose backs this was built on and struggled before it became profitable or popular. Objective: The aim of this study is to discover how Hip-Hop Culture has affected American culture Design and Method: The research method is based on current literature and face-to-face conversations as a journalism project. Phase I is designed as a literature search. The research design is appropriate because the literature will be analyzed from different pop culture mediums such as archival magazine and newspaper articles, song lyrics from appropriate composers, video references/demonstrations and other various forms of pop culture. I used the five elements as a rubric to assess the aforementioned references. The research question is:How has Hip-hop culture affected American culture? Results: The significance of this study is that individuals actively participate in Hip Hop Culture and do not have the requisite knowledge to benefit from it Conclusions: All these trends will only continue to grow and I believe it is imperative for people to know and understand the hip-hop history. I also believe the strives the hip-hop culture has taken have not been properly documented throughout history and that is why I wanted to take an anthropological look at how Hip Hop has affected American culture. Keywords: Hip Hop, Five elements of Hip Hop, Dj, Graffiti, Knowledge, Beat Boxing, Turntablism, Scratching, Art, History, Breakdancing, | |
