While the occurrence of stroke is much more common in the elderly, there is an undeniable rise of strokes in the young. In September of 2018, one of the world's oldest medical journals, The Lancet, published a report stating that the rise of stroke in young adults aged between 18 and 50 has increased substantially - up to 40 percent over the past few decades. The reasons for this increase include drug and alcohol use, obesity, high blood pressure and more. But for many young stroke victims, doctors are unable to detect the cause. The personal stories of victims under 50--Gina Harrison, Frances Vozzo and Brandon Belmonte - illustrate the physical and emotional battles victims face.Accessibility Statement
