This capstone was the perfect opportunity for me to shed light on a topic that needs help from those who have experience in the education system. Along with my personal story, I came across many other stories which lead to the same result. Come senior year in High School, many Latino students feel that higher education is unattainable. Lack of information, poor planning, and being most of the time the first college applicant in the family leads to an overwhelming confusion and frustration. I investigated why First-generation American Latinx students don't apply to college in high numbers like therio counterpart classmates. The design of my study was to take my story as the bases and compare it to other testimonies from people on the same boat as me. The findings and trends proved that this is still an ongoing problem. California, for example, will face a massive problem in the next 10 years if Latinos do not attend college. Half of the population in the state of California are young Latinos which happens to be a significant number of people contributing to the future economy of the state, and the country as well. Having Latinx students understand the requirement from the start of High School will better prepare them to obtain eh grades they need to enroll in college. Parents must be made aware of possible savings plans or strategies to cover the cost of college. Going to a community college and transferring to a state college has always been the most affordable method, but many immigrants parents are not aware of such possibilities.Accessibility Statement
