My senior project employs a passport as a symbol of unity including the stories from Dreamers who came to this country as children. Dreamers are individuals who participate in Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA), a U.S federal government program created in 2012 under President Barack Obama to allow people brought to the United States illegally as children the temporary right to live, study and work in the United States. Those who are applying for DACA are vetted for any criminal history or threat to national security and must be students or have completed school or military service. If they pass vetting, action to deport them is deferred for two years, with a chance to renew. With that they become eligible for basic rights like a driver’s license, college enrollment or a work permit.Collections
