Many individuals in the United States have associated bilingualism to the immigration population and have opiniated that everyone should only Speak American English only. Due to this opinion many parents have worried about teaching their children more than one language. There is history of the advantages and disadvantages of raising children in bilingual households. In this research, we separate myths from psychological results to answer three researched-based questions regarding early childhood bilingualism. Research is based from a range of articles, including linguistics, educational, communication, and psychology, such as developmental and cognitive. Additionally, I interviewed five parents and five teachers on questions about their opinion on bilingualism. The concluding purpose of this research is to bring knowledge to parents and many other people who advise parents about teaching their children more than one language— including preschool teachers, elementary teachers, pediatricians, and speechlanguage pathologists.Accessibility Statement
