This paper examines the current state of DIY music venues throughout the United States. DIY music venues were popular thought the 1990s and early 2000's but were subject to scrutiny as neighborhoods gentrifies. I examine the effects of regulations, gentrification, and national tragedies on artists ability to DIY safely in their cities. Featuring first-hand accounts from people who ran, live in and participated in the community of these spaces, many believe that local and state governments can do more to ensure the sustainability of these spaces.Accessibility Statement
