This text analyzes the work of painters Agnes Pelton and George C. Ault, in regards to how their unique forms of modernism depict inherently American subject matter while simultaneously updating the conventions of American landscape painting. The rise in alternative, spiritual belief systems and widespread industrialism in the early 20th century United States will be looked at in order to frame the work of Pelton and Ault.Accessibility Statement
