The live concert industry holds a unique position in the implementation of the ideal of environmental sustainability, both because concert events are consumption-intensive: in energy, equipment, waste, concessions, merchandise, and transportation, and because they present the opportunity for unparalleled consumer awareness and participation in sustainable human solutions while part of a captive audience. In the face of climate crisis and widespread public inaction, this private sector segment has a platform to shape its own carbon footprint and influence its consumer base. Through fleshing out the extent of the climate crisis, the requirements of sustainability, and the landscape of the live industry, this paper aims to bring light to the means of solving the human sustainability problem that will define the 21st century.
