My project explores the entrapment of both Bertha Mason and Jane Eyre in the novel Jane Eyre. Bertha Mason is entrapped due to the narrative mode and silenced as a character. While Jane Eyre is entrapped within the Gothic mode and marriage plot. This paper explores the patriarchal and imperialist strategies that aid this entrapment of both characters.
