Animals have been used throughout the history and development of biomedical science and are still in use today. Animals continue to be used in scientific research mainly because of the lack of knowledge and awareness about the cruelty of the tests performed, unreliability of the tests and existing alternatives to testing. Although once thought to be necessary to the development of science, experts in this field have provided vast amounts of resources with articulate information, justifying why there should be a ban on animals used in science. Unfortunately, the heinous truth, concern, and desire for change over animal testing does not often leave the animal rights activist community. This paper examines the research demonstrating the downfalls of animal testing, such as inaccuracy and ineffectiveness, why it remains in practice, as well as identifies the solutions and steps towards a future with no animal testing. This paper also discusses morality and theories regarding animals and ethics. It must be called into question why our society does not give all living creatures mutual respect and only seems to protect and appreciate certain species.Collections
