This paper is about the railroads of Westchester County. It aims to show that the railroads influenced the development of the county and was utilized as a tool by individuals and groups for influence on the county.  This is shown through the history and impacts of Westchester's 3 existing railroads as well as some of the failed railroad ventures in the county.  This ranges from the technological improvements to the system to the reasons why certain railroads failed.  The story of the railroads involves how they went from private ventures controlled by powerful individuals to being influenced and utilized as a tool by the general public and the government.
