We all belong to some form of community, several even. This project, titled “Are You Ready?”, dissects the places and spaces I wanted to analyze more deeply and connect with through thought and physicality. It was a physical and psychological process that felt natural and ended up manifesting itself into two series. The first series exists in a boxing gym in Brooklyn, the lifestyle quite familiar to me as my mom is a boxer, and rich in quirky details and obscurities. My mother takes center stage in the ring. The second series is more self analytical and I study myself in connection to others or my own experiences and history. Materiality and hand processes were important in the fruition of this body of work, the subject matter depends on the material and vice versa. Materiality is a way of moving the viewer through the space(s), creating visual movement and depth in a linear narrative.Collections
