dc.description.abstract"Surviving Hell" is a senior project of historical fiction that draws on primary and secondary source research about serving in the Korean War. It's the story of Private Jake Sullivan, a Marine in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division during the Korean War. It's told through a series of letters to his parents and his fiance. The letters trace the emotional toll that combat takes on Jake and although Jake is a fictional character, the battles he fights in and the experiences he shares could have and probably did happen to a lot of the men who fought in Korea.
