The Sonnet Project is an ensemble movement theatre piece conceived and directed by Jon Sawyer Coffin. The production was set to premiere in the March Purchase Performance Lab at Purchase College in March of 2020 but, due to campus closures has since premiered online. The piece is a movement-based, visual imagination of five of William Shakespeare's Sonnets.  The supporting research for the project includes a critical essay on Robert Wilson's Postdramatic staging of William Shakespeare's Sonnets in 2009 at the Berliner Ensemble and later at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The research investigates how Shakespeare's text has been incorporated in such an experimental genre and imagines how this work can be continued in future performance.
