dc.description.abstract | This play is heavily inspired by events in my own life, when my best friend was arrested for second degree murder in January 2019. This event was shocking and filled with personal grief. I was forced to find a deeper strength within myself to be able to talk to her parents, legal team, and psychologist on numerous occasions. Having an incarcerated loved one is soul-changing, and the weight on your mental psyche is heavier than one can describe. Slowly I began to realize that this is a type of event that happens to more families and friends than I understand. I wanted to write a play about the reckoning that families and friends go through when a loved one is suddenly incarcerated. The world is so quick to throw judgement towards criminals, leaving less space for their loved ones to process their grief and sorrow. This play is that space. | |
