dc.description.abstract“What’s in a Name” is a play that explores themes of poverty, how our environment shapes us and the importance of our names. These themes are expressed through familial relationships and friendships. In the play, A daughter works hard to separate herself from the projects by secretly working as a bartender with her closest friend. She hopes to save enough money to be able to move out. The implications of getting herself out of the projects might however, force her mother out of them before she is willing and ready too. The play takes place in a bar and a small apartment in Brooklyn, NY.
