Israel is an ally to the United States, as proved by the billions in funding that has been sent to them. My research proposes the question of whether or not the United States news media portrays bias and favoritism to a side when reporting on an event in Palestine or Israel. The Palestinian-Israeli dispute began in the mid-20th century. Since it began, reporting and media coverage have changed significantly with new factors as well as old journalism tactics that have come into play. I will focus on how America specifically has viewed the Palestinian-Israeli dispute. I will include an analysis on the funding that goes into Israel using direct government sources that state how much money is going into the state and what that money is being used for. Whether it is for the Israeli military or humanitarian funding, the media reports little about it. Making a connection with Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media, 1988, I will be addressing the effects of speaking up in congress, especially if you disagree with Israel and well as the Anti- BDS laws that play a role in our government. It has been shown in the past that speaking up against the Israeli government labels you as an Anti-Semite which is an important part to discuss for my senior project and the connection this has with flaking. Focusing on only news coming to America, I want to look at how word choice can affect the impact that it is leaving its readers. Herman and Chomsky discus in the chapter "Propaganda Model" that the domestic power that the media has means they control the story how the eliets want it to go. To conclude my research, I will be looking into the impact that social media has had on the way people view the conflict. Looking closely at Instagram and TikTok during the Sheikh Jarrah movement in 2021, I will compare the professional reporting to the information that was being spread around the internet and interaction people worldwide were having with the content.Accessibility Statement
