The Final Girl endures the most tortuous abuse, the trauma of witnessing her peers die in front of her, and almost always has a near death experience, and is "different" from her friends - not in a relationship, usually is a conventionally attractive young teenage girl with a good head on her shoulders and is trusted by the entirety of the cast. The "final girl" trope although, is not the feminist "girl power" move these directors are aiming for and want their audience feel. The final girl must endure the abuse of men in order to make it out alive, all while maintaining her "purity" throughout the movie. Is the "final girl" movie trope causing its female viewers to tolerate the abuse of men and the concept of virginity in the media they consume? And does it affect their perception of themselves as individuals?Accessibility Statement
