Injuries play a vital role in the performance of athletes. This paper aims to look at ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction surgery, also known as Tommy John surgery, and the factors that can affect its frequency. Data showed that the pandemic was the cause for a rise in players electing to receive the surgery. Players who have had 2 or more procedures done, had their rate of return decreased, causing their careers to be cut short. Also analyzed was the difference between foreign players versus U.S.-born players in terms of the likelihood to tear the UCL and get surgery, which the data showed to be statistically insignificant.
