Pagitan started because of how I felt during the pandemic. I am Asian American and felt ashamed of my culture. With the rise of Anti-Asian hate crimes and the racism my family and I experienced, I felt small. I decided I shouldn’t hide who I am. I became aware of the lack of representation of Asian Americans in the media, in politics, in my hometown, in the classroom. In an effort to counteract the lack of representation I began to photograph myself and eventually other members of my family. My work has evolved to become about issues surrounding intergenerational relationships, self, time, family and the struggle of being between two cultures.
