Sam: Adapting Hamlet to Create a Mirror for Society describes Will Hallock's experience acting in the title role of Joseph Cobb's Sam. The play was performed once in person at SUNY Purchase in the Experimental Theatre just before the COVID-19 pandemic. The play is a modern retelling of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. This project documents Hallock's research for the performance and describes points in Sam that relate to Shakespeare's work. It also explores Hamlet as a vehicle for displaying societal values, and what makes that specific play so well suited for this purpose via research into Hamlet's origins as well as modern adaptations.Collections
