This project examines three examples of how Insular manuscripts broaden our understanding of the Medieval Hiberno-Saxon region. It examines how visual analysis of the Book of Durrow and Lindisfarne Gospels can reveal what influenced the monasteries in which they were made. It also looks at how studying eucharistic imagery in the Book of Kells can help provide insight into theological concerns of the time. The project argues that through these manuscripts we learn a great deal about the societies of their time.
