This paper investigates the application of mathematics within the scope of science, more specifically the science of astronomy. It considers the historical context, the creation of astronomical tools, as well as the state of astronomy in the modern age. When it comes to science, primarily astronomy, math is also intrinsically entwined as evidenced by its prevailing use in astronomical calculations. This thesis therefore further explores the methods astronomers use and the common application of mathematics in the field of astronomy, be it ancient astronomers measuring the distance between stars or modern scientists' use of equations to measure the density of a black hole.Accessibility Statement
