In the morning, I look in the mirror. I feel clear, slim, and satisfied. By midday, I look again. I feel bloated, bruised, and tired. The evening darkness is no longer kind. I feel plump, heavy, and defeated. Why do I look different anytime I visit my reflection? I am the same to others, but my mind changes how I see myself anytime I look in the mirror. Balanced v.2 is an exploration of typography and how I view myself. For a long time, I have struggled with body insecurity. My body never looks the same in my mind. I always see it as changing anytime I visit the mirror. For my senior year project, I decided to try to overcome the hatred I have over my body with typography. Typography is a new medium for me, I had never designed a typeface or thought about type on a deeper level. I wanted to learn this new craft alongside learning how to be content with my body. The interviews I held with my peers opened my mind to not be so harsh on myself. My body carries me; if it is trying its best to keep me healthy, it is a beautiful body.
