The Smiths is a novel in stories set in St.Dixon - a southern ex-factory town filled with sprawling fields and abandoned farmland. The submitted section, "The Rot Seeps In", takes place during the collective adolescence of the Smith children; Beckett, Constance, Louis and Nate. Within it, the various struggles the children have had simmering within them come to a boiling point in which they can no longer be ignored. An exploration of identity, otherness, family bonds and trauma, The Smiths tells the story of a family with issues that mirror the town they live in; Old, unattended to, and left to grow as they wish.
