Abstract
3 films from David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive) are discussed and analyzed, specifically the elements that help them to stand out as surreal. This is done through looking at specific scenes, and going over the filmmaking, the strange/bizarre elements within them, and their context within the story/genre, showing just why these are surreal. The goal of this is to get a better sense of the worlds that Lynch crafts, show some of his tendencies as a filmmaker, and show how he uses the surreal to further estbalish elements in the film such as the story, characters, themes, and atmosphere. How does Lynch use the surreal as a meaningful tool to enhance his films.
