The only thing, in my opinion, that gives art value is the level of public awareness it fosters. I consequently decided to combine my artistic and anthropological skills to create a project focused on the Revolution of Pakistani Feminism in order to showcase a documentry based on social media's benefits and promote its use in the fight for justice. I have had the exceptional chance to obtain an insider's perspective on my society's diverse population, religious and political divisions, and social justice movements as a Pakistani. A new era was unfolding, and its presence was unmistakable. Each day, I would discover a new social media post on Instagram detailing a harrowing incident from somewhere in my vicinity. Upon awakening one day, we were immediately confronted by a case appearing on our Instagram feeds, accompanied by the hashtag #JusticeForNoor. This horrifying tale described the gruesome murder and beheading of a 24-year-old lady by her boyfriend after she rejected away his advances. The victim was the daughter of a foreign minister, and the perpetrator was the son of one of Pakistan's most powerful business tycoons, making the case particularly noteworthy due to the importance of both parties. The case left such an immense effect on me that i had to go to the Mayor's office and research upon it as he claimed that there had been even more heinous incidents in the previous decade, but none had garnered the same level of publicity as this one. He attributed the case's appeal to the power of social media, which had transformed it into a viral campaign that employed a variety of sensory effects to keep people fascinated. Curiosity got the best of me, so I asked for permission to look through some of his old case files. I came across the case of Mukhtar Mai while browsing through these materials. In a Pakistani town in 2008, a terrible occurrence involving two contending tribal families occurred. In an act of revenge, the daughter of one family was gang-raped in front of the entire village, as ordered by the local government to resolve the dispute between the tribes. Despite garnering international attention through print media, the case has yet to receive justice. I found myself more affected by Noor's case than Mukhtar Mai's. In that moment, I realized that I wanted to explore the impact of social media on gender-based crimes against women and their pursuit of justice. The primary focus of my documentary was that there are ongoing discussions over whether technology is a good or a negative thing as it develops. Because of this, there is a lot of stuff that is critical of social media, but I wanted to show a side of social media that hasn't been discussed. A vast planet has been reduced to a tiny neighborhood. My study's goal was to demonstrate the societal influence that social media has had on society and how much easier it has made it for those without access to these platforms to obtain justice.Accessibility Statement
