dc.description.abstract | My project discusses how Young Adult literature is a transformative genre that bridges childhood to adulthood by showcasing characters who are experiencing puberty and sexual maturity through mystical and fantastical worlds, normalizing puberty and the act of growing up to their young readers. My project will be using Lewis Carroll’s "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" and New York Times bestselling author A.G. Howard’s re-imagined series "Splintered" to demonstrate this connection through their modern day Gothic-Victorian themes, nonsense languages, and emotional and physical development. | |
