    Abstract
The landscape of game development is constantly changing and growing with the continued emergence of diverse frameworks and tools which are designed to streamline the creative process of games. This paper aims to evaluate a contemporary framework which has been tailored for the development of horror games in the 2D space. Through an exploration of its features, capabilities, and limitations, this paper seeks to determine how effective the aforementioned frameworks can facilitate and produce immersive and emotionally evocative experiences that align with the demands of the horror genre. As well as highlight my own experience with those frameworks. We will review the essentials of 2D horror games, including atmosphere, sound design, and gameplay mechanics. Next, this paper will review two development tools, Unity and Gamemaker, with the focal point being Unity, and produce a cross-examination of their efficacy in regards to developing 2D horror games. Ultimately, this paper aims to deepen our understanding of the critical components that contribute to the creation of captivating and memorable 2D horror experiences, as well as evaluating the most effective framework to bring my own 2D horror game idea to life.
