T Background: The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was established by the Obama Administration in June 2012. President Barack Obama announced it on June 15, 2012, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency of the Department of Homeland Security, began accepting DACA applications in August 2012. Objective: This study aims to research The purpose of DACA to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA gives young undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation and 2) a work permit. The program expires after two years, subject to renewal. Design and Method: The research method is based on peer-reviewed literature consisting of scholarly articles, journals, dissertations, and online articles. DACA, an acronym for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a policy that protects around 800,000 young people — known as “DREAMers” — who entered the United States unlawfully as children. The program does not grant them official legal status or a pathway to citizenship. Still, it does allow them to apply for a driver’s license, social security number, and work permit.
