Through the lens of the underground dance scene, how does musical nightlife affect the individual and why is it important for culture at large? In this paper the history of the underground dance scene is analyzed, starting at David Mancuso's venue The Loft. A set of unwritten rules was established at The Loft that has affected every dance music venue to come after it. How these rules affect the individual and the community around them in a positive manner are the main focuses of research in this paper.
