dc.description.abstract | Interparental violence is a serious and prevalent issue that affects both the mother and child in various ways. Not only can the abuse affect them physically, emotionally, and psychologically, but this damage can impact the child's future relationships. As a child grows, the quality of the attachment between mother and child is principal for the growing child's capabilities to regulate a multitude of emotions, resolve conflicts, and create healthy relationships with others as they grow. The interactions that a child witnesses between their parents serve as models for what is and what is not acceptable in romantic relationships and social interactions more generally. The aim of this theoretical thesis was to review and examine various pieces of literature on the consequences of exposure to interparental violence as well as the effects of intimate partner violence. | |
