This project discusses the contemporary horror genre in South Korea and how it has evolved to function as a reflection of national identity which is rooted in culturally-specific fears. By a focus upon the films of Bong Joon-ho and other significant directors of the 2000s, I analyze how horror films compose allegories of trauma and suffering to position an extensive past with a negotiated future.Collections
