2020, Is The Worst Over?

Abstract

2020 has been full of surprises, from World War 3 threats and alien sightings to a worldwide pandemic and the economy crashing. Even though the next year is only less than a month away, nobody doubt that 2020 is over with us just yet. This will be one of the years that will go down in history and taught to future generations as possibly one of the worst years. I wanted to harness all these events and turn them into scenes that seems like they were from a cartoon. All these events from this year seem so unrealistic that they sound like a wild plot for a movie, and that's exactly what I wanted to work with. I wanted to enhance that feeling and show different perspectives on how I viewed some of these events. Majority of these events have all affected us in some negative way, however I wanted people who saw my paintings to see them in a more optimistic way. There has been a lot of negative, but I wanted those who saw these pieces to also have possibly a brighter outlook. I gathered some of the most interesting or unique events of 2020 and turned them into dramatic cartoony scenes. I also took various mediums to create various effects on each piece. I mixed various acrylic mediums like pigments and flow aid, spray paints, gesso and modeling clay. Within each painting, viewers will notice a turquoise figure. This figure represents us, the observer, as well as possibly a person/creature who would not have any idea of what is happening this year if they had not been living among us. They do not have facial expressions, what the observer is thinking is entirely up to the viewer of the pieces.
