Abstract
I make work that presses the importance of sensory connection through texture, pattern and memory. Printmaking processes such as intaglio, monotype, or fabric print, offer me the opportunity to create and visually convey tactile experiences in my work. Utilization of different found objects or materials, including plastic netting, cardboard, bubble wrap or packaging paper, as well as old clothes or fabric scraps find their way to the matrix. Pattern is also a recurring theme. It is often in connection to geometric shapes or grids akin to quilts and woven fiber. However, dimensional patterns are commonly paired with organic forms to contrast order with irregularity. These concepts will frequently guide my decision-making process while putting together a composition.
In my recent work I have expanded upon my love of texture and pattern to incorporate it into pieces which have personal significance. Terms such as nostalgia, reminiscence and connection have been added to thought library. In my solo senior exhibition, I invite people to be in a spce that holds meemoreis and feelings specific to me. My intent behind my art is to bring its viewers to a place in which they feel comfortable and warm. I aim to evoke childhood memories and feelings of warmth that allow the viewer to tune into their own state of reflection.
